Growing up in the village for me was very interesting. When I reflect on some of the things I used to do. I remember this interesting incident which I thought I should share with Biikabkutit. There was this beautiful girl next door, I always wanted to seduce her, but I had a problem how to approach her, so I tried sending signals to see if she will click, lakini akunyita. so I devised a way of visiting her at night, without her knowledge of course. First I had to survey how they locked their kitchen door ( that is where she used to sleep). I confirmed they used a nail to lock it, as I had hoped. So the D-day came, I had chosen to pay the girl a visit around mid night when all was quite in the village. So I left SIROINO without waking the rest of the boys up, a few meters before I reached the girl's home, I decide to take precautions just in case I was got, so I removed my clothes leaving only my only pant I had then, (it had 007 metal tag) and I hanged them somewhere, where I can easily pick them while fleeing. Then I tiptoed to the compound, tried opening the door, but I was too short to reached the nail, I decided to straightened it up by pushing the door slowly but instead of the nail, the hinges came off, luckily it never fell, so I continued, before I embarked on the crucial part of the mission, I took time to warm my hands in the fire place to ensure I never woke up somebody with cold hands, so I approached the bed slowly taking every precaution, I could hear somebody snoring which was a good signal that so far nobody has sensed my presence. But just when I started pulling the blanket slowly away, somebody talked and I could clearly recognize who's voice it was, IT WAS THE MOTHER, I panicked and without wasting time, I fled knocking several things before reaching the door, when I finally exited the broken kitchen door, I increased the speed because I could now see clearly with the aid of the moonlight forgetting to pick my clothes in the process, but suddenly I noticed I was not alone, somebody was ahead of me I could clearly tell he was also fleeing just as I was, it was like I was chasing him and It remains a puzzle up to this who the guy was. I managed to reach my bed safely minus my clothes, which remained hanged where I had left until the following day, well believe it or not, nobody asked me anything eventhough I got my clothes back but I was to discover what had transpired a month after my exploits when I was taken to face the knife.

Cheptilda, I did not. After the knife you are not supposed to go back to business as usual, the change has to be seen. But one thing I am sure of is that the lady is happily married in the same village to date.

Upto this day I have never known who the guy was, but one thing I am sure of is that he was on a similar mission like mine, only that I was ahead of, and just may be he is the guy with the lady now.

@ matechgo, Surprised man, ur determination(read naughtiness) was something else let alone such guts @ such age and/or time when punishments frm boisyek were considered severe. if that was back at my village then, you'd hv bn branded one of th night runners who were so rampant. If you thot kosobek were the only ones fit for th title, think again.
i must admit that is some memory no one would shake off even after decades ....it haunts Very Happy

what i remember when growing up in the village? loads of stuff from taking care of my grandparents' herds of cattle, ensuring they were taken to the rogonget river twice a day, before we rat them and dash to go and ket their moek to kapnyongon stream to kill their thirst then back. All those in the midst of chepkomon pricks, short swims at the rogonget river (thanks to those lessons some of us wonder how terrible swimmers they'd be), watching bulls fight, riding on their backs, climbing the tebesonik trees to check out kesisiek, killing birds & roasting their meat before we indulged in real nyama choma moments, showing our prowess at how best we could extract a chepkomon from one's foot with another chepkomon, going to 2km farthinga having learnt and mastered the art of balancing six korogoro maize, preparing ugali using two hands..........endless list. and all this at the age of barely ten. and when we call them simple days, kids for today have to wonder which part xctly was simple, but we reminisce either way..
Talk of jack of all trades
