“Liar Liar Pants on Fire???AND OTHER WAYS TO SPOT A LYING POLITICIAN
Kenyan Politics, Political Lies, the Economy, and Corruption
There are many issues on the minds of Kenyan politicians and voters these days: Economy and Corruption. Employment issues do not seem to rank very high on the Concern-O-Meter, but to a large extent, that is a self-fulfilling prophesy due to the underreporting of Unemployment problems by the Government. But that aside, even when politicians do get around to discussing important Economical issues with us???unemployment, corruption, sky rocket profits made by the banks —the falsehoods fly.
In some cases, a politician's rhetoric especially from people like the Finance minister Amos Kimunya may be heart-felt, but in other cases it may merely be spin, covering up for the fact that the politician is willing to sacrifice what is good for the Economy and the general populace for a narrower benefit, such as the interests of his boss. But there is a little-talked-about reason that such politicians sometimes lie to us about economical issues: We can't handle the truth.
The concept is that we, the general public, are either unable to stomach certain aspects of reality or are happier being blissfully ignorant. In the case of corruption, most cabinet ministers don't want to address issues of money laundering, ever-increasing high interest rates levied by the banks to regular wanainchi. But why not?
Mr Amos Kimunya may have his reasons for running around the US stating untruths or lying by omission to his sympathetic crowd of mainly people from one particular region. Many may see the real solutions to some economical and corruption issues as too complicated to explain to his unwashed masses, or they may view the solutions as striking at the heart of the Kenyan way of life and, therefore, political suicide to bring up.
There is some truth to both of these notions. The facets of our existence that are wasteful or unsustainable are indeed threatened by sensible solutions. But the proper explanation of issues and solutions can't easily be distilled down to 60-second sound bites, and Mr Amos Kimunya knows that's about all the attention they can expect from him. If we all were disengaged as voters, we couldn’t really expect politicians like Mr Kimunya to talk to us as though we were paying close attention.
We, as Kenyans In the Diaspora, have hard choices to make. It would be nice if Mr Kimunya would tell us the truth, explain the tough issues, and give us some choices for how they are solving insecurity, corruption and economical problems. But until there is a grassroots movement supporting discussion of difficult issues—until the supporting winds blow hard enough for politicians with their fingers in the wind to sense the need to do it—most politicians will continue to run to the US with their lies and leave the tough issues in the Cone of Silence. Until we demonstrate that we can handle the truth, we can expect our politicians especially people like Mr Kimunya to keep lying to us.
There will always be some politicians like Mr Kimunya who will lie more than others and some who come very close to telling us the truth. It's easy enough to identify these two types: The lying politicians will usually be saying things that feel comfortable and require no effort on our part; the truth-telling politicians will usually be saying things we'd rather not hear and prefer not to think about. And for this I end with a word of appreciation to all our Brothers and sisters in Minnesota who attended Mr Amos Kimunya’s Propaganda/Economy summit and refused to accept his half baked lies. Thank you so much for shoving all the lies back to him unlike his choir in Atlanta who are busy praising him right now in the Mashada forum. _________________ Great spirits have always encountered opposition from mediocre minds.' | Chemosi hit the nail right on the head.........no one has to be a rocket scientist to realize that most politicians, not unlike Amos Kimunya look you in the eye and lie to you straight up. Even more if you question them about they will tell you to either believe them or your lying eyes. Either waqy you look at this issue, only dumb guys will believe what Kimunya has been going around the states saying about 'the great growing Kenyan economy". Considering the facts on the ground, from Lokitaung to Lungalunga, Mandera to Busia, & Marsabit to Transmara, i beg to differ with Mheshimiwa Kimunya. Having said that and in lieu of thow much the ordinary mwanainchi is suffering, Kimunya should in my opinion take all his statistics, for what they are worth, and simply shove it up his ass.
