I have come to a conclusion that Education in Kenya needs an overhaul. The quality of education is mediocre at it's best, not to bash it but studies have showed that the 844 system is flawed and need serious restructuring.

What I find unfair is that the expensive urban schools, mainly private are probably the only place where the Kenyan kids can get a good education. Unfortunately these are often too expensive for the common mwananchi. We need a fair system that can provide excellent education to all students accross the country. The demographics should not determine what kids graduate in the country. This goes along way to say that the education system is unfair to those who cannot afford to send their kids to the good, but "unaffordable" schools.

Overall, the fact is that education needs serious change and resources need to be distributed equally amongst all schools especially those controlled by the government. It is not fair that urban schools get all the raw materials they need while the rural schools suffer with little or sometime no place to call a classroom. I know of some schools where kids have to learn under the tree, not to menton the scarcity of books for these kids. It's time an education reform bill is sent to parliament for debate and hopefully in the future we can see that there is equal opportunity for all the kids in Kenya to have a fair and equal playground to work with when it comes to learning. Your thoughts are welcome. Thanks.

The key to solving the education crisis is to introduce an effective Majimbo govt where parents pay taxes right from their local village school zones, location, division, and district levels to be used to improve their local schools. This way, you won't have the imbalance we currently see where only schools from the central part of the country have the best facilities, laboratories, and teachers at the expense of most rural schools. I am hopeful & counting on ODM-K to form the next govt and introduce a MAJIMBO govt which is long overdue.

thanks for touching on this....

i have a very serious observation that has annoyed me for quite a long time.... a child goes to baby class, nursery and pre-unit before graduating to standard one nowadays... in nursery the kid is doing maths homework of sums my like did when we were in standard two... the english homework can put a standard three kid in shags to shame...., is that rate seriously in order.. i mean overworking children brains that fast..

and as for most end products currently with so many private schools mushrooming every where, are children who have been spoon fed thoroughly... this trend has grown worst in the last 5 or so years

Chep, it's a classic example of un-equal distribution of revenue resources and the sooner they launch the majimbo system, the better and the more equal the distribution of resources amongst all tribes will get

I believe a childs mind should be left to grow at it's own pace. A little education while young is actually helpful, but overworking the young minds can lead to rebelious behavior towards school when they get older. So I think the way to actually work this out is teach the kids what they need to know and not what you think is necessary. Childhood is about figuring out what life is all about. Give them a map, and let them wonder. One way or another they always find the way. Afterall they are kids!
