| I just watched Sen. Barrack Obama on ABC's this week......this guy comes across as a very serious contender for the presidency whose election would surely help focus Africa's problems to the world community. He made some good points on what he would do to uplift the standard of living of not only poor americans but also africa's downtrodden and neglected peoples. It's nice to see a person of color, especially one with Kenyan connections running as one of the frontrunners to win the nomination and get elected President.....Best wishes & Good luck to Sen. Obama from all the Africans in the motherland and especially from those in the diaspora.

| Angela & Nyiganet....u guys are both right.......i guess it's kinda hard to see Obama winning here as we all know..... in lieu of all the racial prejudice we all know exists.......we may not be able to see it on a daily basis, but we all agree we can smell it anywhere we as a people go to....some would argue nothing wrong with that......but, the key though is to shoot for the best and expect the worst.....Obama has a great chance.....sumbitch might just pull it off considering Hilary's weaknesses and/or liabilities..........our job is to wish him all the luck in the world, show up at his rallies every time we can like i just did this past weekend, and may be, just may be we get lucky and he ends up getting elected. That would be great, not only for Kenya, but also for Africa and the entire world for that matter, considering we have had nothing but kosengeng Bush running this country to the ground the last six years or so.

| On a personal note, gotta note that Sen. Obama addressed the move on-stop the war rally this past weekend in DC and for all intents & purposes, he came across as the only candidate who can be counted on to stop the quagmire in Iraq, do the right and focus on what this country ought to do to put it's own priorities right before spending billions of dollars invading sovereign nations and forcing the locals to accept the so called democracy coming through the barrels of AK-47's, devastating bombs and the infamous 'shock & awe"..wtf?.. Needless to note, Sen. Edwards and Sen. Clinton came in second & third respectively which gives me hope that Americans all across the country may have a one in a lifetime chance to lobby, campaign for and elect a candidate who gives a rat's ass chance to all the racism and prejudice but would rather do what's right to all regarless of color, nationality and /or place or origin.........go Obama go!!!

| Bwana Altoo, too bad yu had to blog but I actually attended the debate at Howard university the other night and guess what?, yu were right on the money brother Nick. Obama obviously got the most applause and genuine love from the mostly black crowd but Hilary came out raging on the issues that affect african americans and most people thought she easily won the debate with Obama a close second. I think you right on the money on your feedback about the election being Obama's to loose considering he raised more money this quarter than Hilary did. More power to brother Obama hopefully he can beat the odds and win this thing. Btw Bwana Altoo, yu should really consider running for either Ainamoi or Kipkelion seat, what do you say?

Nyiganet, you too kind brother & though i appreciate your qualified endorsement, I don't know just yet about personally running for any public office any time soon...... but i do know this though, Sen. Obama is clearly kicking some butt. More power to the brother it seems like Americans have finally woken up, smell the coffee & decided that this country is not a monarchy...enough Bush/Clinton/Bush/Clinton crap _________________ a CITIZEN without POLITICAL KNOWLEDGE is a VIRTUAL CRIMINAL....when the POWER of LOVE overcomes the LOVE of POWER, the WORLD will know PEACE....I would rather be HATED for WHO I am than LOVED for WHAT I am not....LIVE FREE or DIE HARD!!!

|
|
|
By Steve Sailer TAC?s film critic and a Monday morning columnist.
Obama?s Identity Crisis is not good for Poor Kenyans
Most authors who write about African-Americans?social problems appear to know nothing?and don?t seem to want to learn anything?about Africans. Our pundits and academics assume that the social history of black Americans traces to that day in 1619 when the first slaves were herded on to that dock in Virginia, but no farther back. We could call it the Black Blank Slate theory.
In refreshing contrast, in Obama?s account of race and inheritance, the continuities between Africa and African-America are clear. Kenya seems like an incipient Chicago housing project, preserved only by its inability to afford the welfare state that has ruined the inner city. His aunt?s Nairobi home is ?just like the apartments in Altgeld, I realized. The same chain of mothers and daughters and children. ?The same absence of men.?
Unless they can bribe their way into a prestigious office job, most of Obama?s male relatives work as little as possible, relying on their womenfolk for food and shelter. And the women are looking for what the author?s grandfather and uncle Sayid both call a ?big man?to ease their burdens with funds extracted from the government. Obama?s father, it turns out, had grabbed for the brass ring but wound up a failed Big Man, undone by President Jomo Kenyatta?s discrimination against his Luo tribe and by his own alcoholism. Even when impoverished, Obama Sr. pathetically kept playing the Big Man, dispensing gifts he couldn?t afford to his relatives and hangers-on.
On his trip to Kenya last year, he began by lecturing the frustrated audiences not to expect his prominence in Washington to change their lives??My time is not my own. Don?t expect me to come back here very often.?But in the slum of Kibera, the crowd?s adulation overcame his intellectual defenses and he began shouting joyously, ?You are all my brothers and sisters!?
In his head, Obama surely knows that his becoming the world?s biggest man would be bad for the work ethic of Kenyans especially the Luo tribesmen, some of whom would assume America would support them. But in his heart, none of that matters.
For Americans wondering about his fitness to be president, his latest Kenyan trip symbolizes the inner duality beneath his dapper exterior. He possesses one of the finest minds of any politician, but his personal passions routinely war against his acknowledging unwelcome truths, even to himself.
After four years there, the South Side is worse than ever, with youth violence ratcheting upwards. Obama applies to Harvard Law School (and eventually becomes a discrimination lawyer). Upon acceptance, he makes his first visit to Kenya, where Dreams from My Father finally achieves frankness worthy of its artistry.
Obama immediately appreciates the sweetness of African life in the bosom of his newfound family??For family seemed to be everywhere ?all of them fussing and fretting over Obama?s long-lost son??but soon discovers its discontents, including how polygamy generates convoluted conflicts too intricate for even the longest-running soap opera. The rival families of his late father?who died in a drunken car crash a half decade before?are still suing each other over his meager estate.
Despite Obama?s relentless efforts to mold himself into an African-American, his overwhelmingly white upbringing is apparent in his coolly analytical depiction of his mother, a portrait that most black men would find disrespectful. To Obama, his mother is a Kumbaya-era liberal. I suspect he feels that she messed up her life due to na?ve faith in Third World countries and Third World men; but if she had been wiser, where would he be? This is one of life?s conundrums that?s hopeless but not serious, and yet Obama can?t help being serious about himself. _________________ Great spirits have always encountered opposition from mediocre minds.' Chemosi, i beg to differ with Steve Sailer's article on Obama's book, "dreams from my father"....I am not entirely sure what the author's point is, but I get a sense that this gentleman's column is trying to analyze Obama's book in an objective manner yet can't wait to critize it between the lines on the same breath.....well, let me just say this, I read the book myself and in my analysis, I concluded that it was a well written book, detailed, concise & while some stories may have been exaggerated on some events, it's an open secret that's what all authors do to capture the reader's imagination. Having said that, I do highly recommend the book to all kenyans & africans, especially those in the diaspora coz it connects the two WORLDS we have ALL gotten a chance to live in just like Obama himself experienced it first hand living in Hawaii & more so, on his travels to not only Kenya but Indonesia as well. _________________ a CITIZEN without POLITICAL KNOWLEDGE is a VIRTUAL CRIMINAL....when the POWER of LOVE overcomes the LOVE of POWER, the WORLD will know PEACE....I would rather be HATED for WHO I am than LOVED for WHAT I am not....LIVE FREE or DIE HARD!!!
