Biikabkutit, do we all realize we are facing a dire situation with the global warming effects on our damn planet?....if so, what are we doing about it?, are we educating our folks on how to fight it?, if not, why not?.....it's so bad now that the drought has hit the entire south eastern US, Maryland, Virginia & the Carolinas are drying up, too much rain in Texas, snow in Arizona, Buines Aires, Argentina & Tswane, South Africa for the first time in recorded history, water levels in the great lakes & lake victoria are way down, Arctic ice is vast disappearing not to mention the catastrophic effects another El Nino would have on on East Africa peoples & livestock.....what are we to do to fight this imminent epidemic biikabkutit?..............discuss Idea

Talking with people to persuade them that climate change is a natural process, and man's contribution is minuscule at most.
so that we dont waste time, energy and money focusing on the wrong thing. We need to learn to adapt to it, not try to stop a process that is a fundamental part of how this planet works.
oh,& have lots sex!

There are a few small things that individuals can do to help out - but it'll takes society as a whole to "fix" it. After all - it took all of us quite a while to "break" it... don't imagine it'll take less time than that to fix it! Like us all corkin our butts& mouths so we dont heat up the atmosphere-lol.
on a serious note, i know it seems frightening and unpredictable but remember, those that believe in GW are going to make it look and sound as horrible as they can.Nobody really knows for certain just what kind of impact we are having on the climate but one thing I can say for sure is that it's better to be safe than sorry.Even if you don't believe what they say there are things you can do to help cut down on greenhouse gases and save yourself a load of money. So, why not do it!?! Who's going to turn down something that helps them personally?Start by changing your light bulbs from the old incandescent to those new swirly looking kind. They are more expensive but over the long run you will save allot of money and cut greenhouse gases as well. They last much longer and light much better. You can also only buy electronics and appliances with the energy star logo on them. Also, shut things off that are not in use. Such as TV's, lights, etc... This will also help to save you money and help the environment at the same time. There are many other things you can do just in your little part of the world to help and most benefit you anyway , so you see, believing or not doesn't matter. It's the doing that matters.
At the end of the day it is you who has to look in the mirror and wonder if you are doing the right thing.

Lord Have Mercy, Father Bless us All!
What a debate Altoo and Memo, I have enjoyed the discussions on the above topic and I figured I should contribute my piece of mind. I believe in Global warming and the effects are pretty obvious. Need proof? The evidence is right on our back yard...look at the onve beautiful, snow-covered Kilimanjaro. The ice on the peak is disappearing faster than a blink of an eye. In the next 100 years it will basically be a rocky peak, not to mention that the Sahara is also expanding at an exponential rate. Look guys, doom is coming. We have have screwed up the planet and I don't think the effects are revesable. Lets face it we can talk about it as much as we want, but as a matter of fact, we in Africa are not responsible for the effects we are about to face. The guilty parties are still going to do what they do best, use all the oil and continue to screw things up for the underdog.

biikabkutit, it seems to me like we all, for the most part agree that global warming is a real, clear and present danger but the challenge is, are we gonna get off our fat asses educate our folks and do something about it or we just gonna sit around in our SUVs and talk about it till we drown in it?......by the way, for the unconvinced & the non-believers of this subject, please check out Al Gore's film "Inconvenient truth" or better yet, 2004's twentienth century fox film 'The day after tomorrow" & if that doesn't convince you, i don't believe nothing will

if we were to stop using all road vehicles worldwide for 12 days per year e.g once every month and everybody either used bicycles or walked to work, school, college etc, how much would that slow down global warming? Smile

Memo, I would give you an exact global warming reduction index if i could but i dare say it will help a lot...so is minimizing energy use, driving less 7 walking more, planting as many trees as we can, recyling renewable energy sources every chance we get, using florescent lighting as opposed to bulbs and many many other small things that each of us could employ.........it's worth the effort in my opinion and we ought to do it more not less Very Happy

Actually it is the educating the masses that can play a very significant role... most people dont even know the effect of greenhouse gases in global warming... many people dont associate the climatic variations/fluctuations with global warming.. most actually associate it with an act of God... folks should know the differences between God-induced processes and man-made calamities. The question is how much are we doing in passing the message????

Death is an inevitable occurence one way or the other....

but the issue here is our contribution as mankind to global warming. There is a lot of change currently in the global ecosystem; look at the arctic for example there is continuous thinning of the ice plates simply because there is extreme high surface temperature, and it is the home of polar bears, seals and so many other creatures, our action is not only affecting mankind but the entire living things in the world.

Memo, u killing me Laughing ......LOL...so what do you suggest we should do then?, cry ourselves to sleep and hope we will be dead in the morning?...I think not, coz, if we did that, it would be kinda like using the only bullet we still have in the chamber to shoot our own foot as opposed to using it to shoot an eminent & immediate danger..go figure Rolling Eyes .......
