Biikabkutit, On a go forward basis,I propose that we as a people, with more than 3 million voters in our great old RV demand that members of parliament immediately move a bill b4 parliament making Dec 27th of every five years after an election a NATIONAL HOLIDAY where every Kenyan citizen can go vote for their elected representatives.....that way, we get to avoid a situation where any incumbent president can pick any day out of his ass, play tricks on our minds telling us it's his "secret weapon" but rather tell the country that's when EVERYONE gotta vote...what do you guys think?

Why not a range; say anything from after christmas but before new year such that incase 27th falls on a day like sunday; people dont start complaining. Being specific is being too rigid, and doesnt allow room for any emergency....

LOL, i dare say they will be so excited, thanks to the free flow of busaa & beer they will be more than willing to go cast their vote....whether or not they cast an informed vote is another matter altogether but at least they would have done their civil duty by voting for somebody Laughing

my view, the Electoral Commission ought to pick a date when the city folks can still vote b4 they go to the shacks to celebrate X-mas.......that way, everyone's vote is cast , respected, counted and valued

to get everyone to vote, especially kimainik, they should set up free busaa and changaa depots at the polling stations where the drunkards can only enjoy their maji ya wazee but only after they vote. that's one way to get 100% voter turnout

Altoo,

That's a brilliant idea. I think everyone should be given a fair opportunity to cast the ballot. But I don't think it will happen. The government is only after national holidays that honor the Big Dogs, like MOI day, Kenyatta Day etc. It's a dumb idea and I think we need to do away with these dictatoship types of national holidays. Even Fidel Castro Or Muamrar Khadaffi don't have national holidays named after them.

Tiondo, u can bet your a*ss ODM govt will pass such a bill once it comes to power besides introducing Majimbo ......& while they are at it, they might as well combine Kenyatta & Moi days & call it "Heroes/Shujaa" day, & rename Jomo Kenyatta International & Moi International airports Nairobi International & Mombasa International respectively....enough personalizing BS already...... Evil or Very Mad .

Think about this for a minute;
Dec 24 falling on a Monday, Christmas 25th on a Tuesday Dec 26 on a wednesday then Voting on Thursday 27th, well Friday is just a sh*ty day nobody wants to go to work and then here comes the weekend again and Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th and dont forget before Dec 24th Dec 22nd and Dec 23rd were Saturday and Sunday respectively.

So lets just say every voting period the wanainchi should get a one week vacation.

Chemosi, dunno about every voting period but for this one, HELL ya, they should declare a whole week HOLIDAY in lieu of the fact that Xmas falls on a tuesday......SuraMbaya, providing kimainik with "maji ya wazee" for their vote would pretty much amount to bribery in my humble opinion Smile

how about mandating that it's every citizen's duty to vote lest they get fined the way they do it down under?, i think that will bring a sense of nationalism pride & a sense of duty to every mwanainchi should the next serikali actually passes a bill to that effect...i wish and/or hope they will Cool
